What is Dulera?
Dulera is asthma medication containing Mometasone (an inhaled corticosteroid) and Formoterol (a bronchodilator). It comes in an inhaler and is used to control asthma in people whose asthma is not controlled by corticosteroids alone. Currently, there are no lawsuits related to the usage or side effects of this medication.
What are the side effects?
Because it contains Formoterol, there is an increased risk of death or hospitalizations from asthma attacks. Other side effects may include nausea and headaches.
Have there been any mass tort or class action lawsuits?
Despite the benefits it offers to patients, some questions about the drug’s safety have been raised over the years. In 2011, federal drug regulators ordered new studies to examine potential safety problems with several asthma drugs, including Dulera. However, as of the present time, there have been no lawsuits specifically related to Dulera or its side effects. Users are encouraged to speak with their doctors about any unexpected side effects or complications, as these could potentially result in future litigation.
In the context of other asthma medications, it is notable that the FDA removed a black box warning from certain inhalers, including Advair and Symbicort, in 2017. This was due to evidence showing they do not carry the increased risk of severe asthma side effects and death that was previously suspected. While this action did not directly involve Dulera, it does reflect the evolving understanding of the safety of similar asthma medications.
Clinical trials for Dulera were conducted between 2010 and 2011, and the results of these trials showed that patients administered with Dulera experienced significant improvement from baseline in lung function at week 12 compared to other treatments. These results supported the FDA’s approval of Dulera.
It’s important to reiterate that, at the time of this update, no specific lawsuits related to Dulera have been filed. Patients using Dulera should continue to monitor their health and communicate any concerns or side effects to their healthcare providers. In the event of unexpected adverse effects, patients may wish to consult with a product liability attorney or other legal professional to explore their rights and potential legal options.
